April 4, 2024 – Justice4Yemen

Alamal Womens Cultural and Social Foundation and Justice4Yemen Coalition released a joint statement on International Mine Action Day condemning the continued use of landmines by parties to the conflict, particularly the Ansar Allah Movement (Houthis), in both the east and west of Yemen, in violation of the provisions of the Mine Ban Treaty (Ottawa). This statement emphasizes the need to raise awareness of the danger of mines and remnants of war, to compensate victims and their families, and to offer assistance to survivors. The statement cites numerous international and local reports that reveal alarming statistics on the number of casualties since the beginning of the conflict in 2014 until the beginning of last year 2023. In its statement, the Justice4Yemen Coalition calls for justice, accountability, the inclusion of mine-related issues in peace negotiations and agreements, the establishment of an independent investigation mechanism, ongoing monitoring of progress and support for local human rights initiatives.
